Journey To Wellness
Journey to Wellness provides a heart centered approach to wellness. Believing the body speaks its own language and when a therapist interprets this language through massage a 2-way conversation takes place allowing for the journey of well-being to begin.
Massage modalities such as Relaxation, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, CranioSacral, and Reiki, inspire these philosophies. I have worked with client's with mild MD, Parkinson's, Fibromyalgia, Headaches, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, as well as those involved with motor vehicle collisions. Massage is great to decrease stress, anxiety, pain, muscle tension and increase sleep, boost the immune system, relaxation, mobility and flexibility.
I understand pain both from a short term and long term perspective. It was massage that allowed me to manage and decrease pain and the main reason I became a massage therapist. Maintaining massage allowed me to complete an 800 hour massage course through East West College of the Healing Arts to bring healing to others. Massage has increased my quality of life including having a successful massage practice, enjoy life with gardening, camping, cookouts, participating in community events, and share quality time with family and friends.
Wellness is a journey- When will you begin yours?
Your therapist wants to provide you with a safe, effective and pleasant massage/bodywork experience. Here are a few basic questions that are often asked-
MUST I COMPLETELY UNDRESS?
No. It is completely up to the client and their comfort level. Traditionally, most bodywork or massage is performed with client unclothed and on a massage table in-between a set of sheets and a blanket on top . You will be properly draped (covered) during the session, providing a safe and relaxing environment.
IS MY THERAPIST IN THE ROOM WHEN I DISROBE?
No. The therapist will give instructions regarding disrobing, how to get on the massage table, then leave the room. You will be given privacy for disrobing and getting on the table. The therapist will first knock on the door and ask if you are ready. If you respond yes, the therapist will enter the room and the session will begin. If you respond no, the therapist will give you a few additional minutes to get ready for your session. In addition, when your session is completed, the therapist will leave the room, giving you time and privacy to get redressed.
WHAT PART OF MY BODY WILL BE MASSAGED?
A "full body" massage includes neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, legs, feet. If there is a specific area(s) of focus, that area, along with other areas associated with the primary area may be worked, example: Area of complaint is hips. The low back and legs may get worked. Again, proper draping will done during session.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE, DURING, & AFTER MY SESSION?
BEFORE: While in the room, the therapist will review the intake information with you and discuss any concerns, answer questions you may have and discuss a plan to address your symptoms.
DURING: To be draped appropriately. To apply the plan discussed to help alleviate or decrease your symptoms. To feel comfortable during the session, and communicate with your therapist if a technique feels uncomfortable or increases symptoms. Your therapist will periodically check in with you to see how you are doing.
AFTER: Discuss with the therapist how you felt about the session. Most client's experience a decrease in pain and muscle tension, and increase in relaxation and mobility. Depending on the bodywork and how much bodywork is done - you may be sore for a day or two and your therapist will have discussed options that can help. On occasion, client's have felt like they have mild "flu-like" symptoms- this can be due to the amount of toxins that have been released from tissue and your body working to flush them out.
ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT WOULD MAKE MASSAGE OR BODYWORK INADVISABLE?
Yes. You should always check with your healthcare provider regarding possible contraindications for health conditions/medication interaction with massage/bodywork. Your therapist will discuss with you at your appointment if there is a reason massage/bodywork should not be completed and may need to reschedule your appointment. If you are currently under a medical provider's care, Journey to Wellness, will require a written recommendation for massage/bodywork from your provider.
